Cat Adoption Agreement Terms:

By agreeing to this contract, I agree to the following adoption policies:

1. I am 18 years of age or older and have provided identification showing my present address, and I own my home or have landlord consent to adopt this animal.

2. I agree to provide this animal with adequate food and fresh water, shelter from the elements, daily exercise and kind treatment at all times.

3. I agree not to give away, sell or trade this animal, nor will I take this animal to a shelter or otherwise abandon it. I agree to contact Whisker Wishes Rescue immediately if I can no longer care for or keep this animal.

4. I agree to obey any and all animal regulations governing the area in which I live and I agree to provide the animal with all recommended veterinary care, including monthly heartworm prevention and annual vaccinations. I further agree to provide the animal with prompt veterinary care if it becomes ill or injured.

5. Cat/kitten will visit veterinarian within 72 hours of arrival in order to verify health. Whisker Wishes Rescue does not guarantee the health of any animals adopted. The cat/kitten has been checked by a vet and received basic medical care along with spay/neutering, applicable shots, and basic blood work – but will need to be started immediately on a program of preventative vet care. Please be aware that the cats/kittens available for adoption are rescue animals and, as such, have often been exposed to a variety of diseases. Like human illnesses, these disorders can have an incubation period of up to several weeks. If the cat/kitten you adopt shows signs of illness at any point, please take it to the vet for treatment.

6. I have been advised that an FIV/Feline Leukemia test is inconclusive on kittens under 6 months of age, and therefore I agree to retest said cat at 6 months of age.

7. I agree that the cat/kitten will not be allowed outdoors without proper supervision. When taking my cat outdoors, it will be on a secure harness and wear proper ID. (excludes the adoption of a working cat).

8. I agree that I will not declaw the cat/kitten at any time. I agree to a fine of $1,000.00 and surrender of the cat if Whisker Wishes learns that the cat was declawed.

9. I understand and agree that Whisker Wishes Rescue makes no guarantees about the animal’s temperament and is not responsible for future damages or injuries caused by the animal.

10. I give Whisker Wishes Rescue the right to inspect my home or call my home at any reasonable time, without notice, to assure that the cat/kitten is being properly treated and cared for.

11. I agree the cat/kitten may be removed from my home if any conditions of the adoption contract have been violated or, if in the opinion of Whisker Wishes Rescue the environment is unsafe.

12. I agree to keep Whisker Wishes Rescue informed of my current home address and phone number.

13. All adoption fees are non-refundable

If you have a friend or family member who wants to adopt your cat, please notify us so we can process their application to have their information on file.

~Working Cat Program

Thank you for adopting from our Working Cat Adoption Program!

Below are a few tips for a successful acclimation period (3 week minimum) which will help them adjust to their new home and lead to a successful relationship with your new pet!

What do you need to provide in the way of supplies?

· Extra-large dog crate or enclosed room, such as a tack room or shed. An area with supplemental heat and a flap door is ideal. Whisker Wishes Rescue can loan a crate (a $100 refundable deposit is required).

· Cat food – dry is essential; wet food is a bonus.

· Large HEATED water bowl and water.

· Food bowls – separate bowls for wet and dry are ideal.

· Litter – any kind and small litter pan.

· Soft blanket or cat bed– cats like soft places.

· A cardboard box, cat carrier, cat den, or cat house for hiding.

· Cover the top of the acclimation cage with a blanket or sheet. Any other helpful tips about the acclimation process?

· The cats need to bond with their caretaker. Regular interactions will help create ……this bond.

· The cats need a regular feeding schedule; both morning and night.

· The litter box needs to be cleaned every day.

· Water needs to be kept clean (as well as added to).

· You can feed the cat(s) wet food specifically in the evening during the acclimation process. Continue that practice after the cage door is open to help encourage them to return for the evening feeding.

· You may be able to tell how well the acclimation period is going by how the cats react when you open the door to feed them. If the cats are settling in comfortably, they will brush up against the feeder’s arm. But don’t worry, this may never happen with really feral cats.

· Cats like toys, especially the kind of longer rope or feather toys that allow them to interact with/play with you from a distance.

How to the “release” the cats?

· After three weeks in the enclosed area, remove crate but keep food and water dish in the same location and keep feeding schedule the same. Keep litter pan accessible.

· Continue to feed the cats in bowls in the enclosed area, change the water, and change the litter regularly.

· If you have a barn/shelter that you can close up at night, please do so. It will help protect your cats from predators.

· Make sure you have an area that the cat can climb into for hiding and sleeping (upside down box can work)
